Carrie Lin Connects, Edition #32

Happy Friday, friends!

I spent a chunk of my week planning a birthday party for my youngest daughter, who's about to turn six years old. And, since the days practically overlap, I also started focusing on Mother's Day, which is coming up quickly here in the U.S.

I've come to realize that it's one of those holidays I'm never prepared for. I envy the people who seem to always know just how to recognize special occasions. Instead, I'm forever struggling to choose gifts or know what to say to let others know how much I appreciate them. With that in mind, I took some time to make something for those of us who might be seeking a way to recognize the moms in our lives who have made a difference. It might be the neighbor you see balancing young toddlers with a busy work schedule. It might be a coworker who's always taking care of or "mothering" you. It might be the single dad raising kids on his own. Moms come in all forms, and I'm all for a day where we take a moment to be mindful and notice their efforts.

I've been inching along on other projects, my individual coaching practice, online courses, and some small, rewarding events. I have some great resources, which I'll share below.

  • I recently lined up a date to host a TEDx watch party at The Quartyard in San Diego, a thriving hub of activity in the downtown area. Details will come shortly for local friends.
  • I'm thinking about how to run better hybrid events, which don't seem like they'll be going away anytime soon.
  • I'm leaning into my hunch that mindfulness and nervous system support are cornerstones of training for public speakers. I've been re-reading this book, Anchored, by Deb Dana, as I formulate ideas for a course.
  • I came across this talk which shares what we can learn from studying our voice.
  • I have an upcoming Zoom discussion about the book Cues, which will take place next Thursday, May 5th at 9 am PDT. It's a free event and it isn't necessary to read the book to attend.
  • This is a ridiculous, but perfect example of how to be memorable in front of a crowd
  • Take some time to craft a story for a mom in your life who has made a difference. You have two weeks! Feel free to share it with a friend.

That's all I have today. Enjoy the weekend - I'll be back next Friday!

Hi Everyone, How are you doing? It's been a heavy week. As far as my newsletter goes, there's what I had hoped to share, and then there's what I'm actually sharing. I'm struggling to focus on much beyond the most recent mass shooting in the U.S. that took more than 20 lives, so this will be short. I don't have it in me to speak much beyond what's right in front of my face. I deleted social media apps from my phone last week for a break, but logged in on Wednesday to check out this Instagram...

Hello, friends! I hope this email finds you healthy and happy, which, based on current events, feels trickier than it sounds. My daughters are nursing what seem to be sharmless cough, but in the age of COVID, have been home for several days letting them run their course. I truly hope you are healthy and happy. This week was punctuated by meaningful projects that reminded me of my reasons for doing the work that I do: helping people connect more deeply with themselves and others. Early this...

Hello, friends! It's an exciting week on this end, with my youngest daughter turning 6 on Saturday. The last few days I've been preparing a sweet fairy garden party. With any luck, tomorrow the kids will all be casting nature spells and potting their own little plants to take home. In the meantime, I'm feeling scattered all to heck. I'm doing projects I enjoy, but my energy feels pretty spread out. Ever felt this way? I hear this from a lot of the moms I pass as I drop my kids off at school....
